Reflexión de Navidad (see translation into English at the bottom)
¡Felicidad, Paz y Amor!
I'm not very religious. But there are things about religion that really move me. As a Christmas reflection, I'll tell you what my eleven-year-old son Leandro told me about the "identity" of Jesus. We had already talked about the three monotheistic religions of the world, the three of which, not coincidentally, begin with the Old Testament: the Jewish, the Christians and the Muslims; I mention them in order of historical appearance. For Leandro it is clear that for the Muslims, Jesus is one more prophet, like Mohammed, and that for the Jews he was something like a false prophet. The difference, it is clear for him, is that for Christians, Jesus was not a prophet, let alone a fake one, but God himself turned into a man ... He often asks me whether I believe so. I usually answer I'm not sure; if I think carefully I tend to believe that Jesus was a great philosopher influenced by Stoicism who brought to the world a message that could save all of us from self-destruction if taken seriously: a message of peace and love. Therefore, I say that I am a Christian, because History has still not delivered, as far as I know, a message as beautiful as the one brought by Jesus. I do not care if he was God turned into a man, or a prophet or a madman. If he was a madman, welcome, because the best people in this world are crazy ...
But Leandro, after thinking a lot, said to me that he was sure that Jesus was God Himself turned into a man. He said, "God knew that his messenger, to accomplish his mission, would have to die in such a horrible way, on the cross. Then God must have thought: 'I cannot send a creature of mine to suffer so much ... I will have to go Myself.' If I were God, I would have done that."
This moving childish reflection is my Christmas present to all of you.
